NECA collectibles have been on the scene since 1996, while Hot Toys was established in 2000. Both these powerhouses make incredible life-like action figure collectibles. But which one do you choose when wanting to spend your hard-earned money. Read on to find out.

Choosing between NECA and Hot Toys collectibles will either boil down to price or preference, with NECA being the cheaper option. NECA focuses primarily on 1/10 scale (7inch) life-like detailed collectibles, while Hot Toys focus on the 1/6 life-like detailed scale collectibles; However, both make larger-scale models as well.

This article will briefly cover who NECA is and what type of collectibles they make. Then it will also briefly cover who Hot Toys are. Then it will look at comparing both Hot Toys and NECA collectibles by detailing the main factors and differences between the two so you have the information you need when undecided to make a purchasing decision.

Who is NECA?

NECA (the National Entertainment Collectibles Association) is not a Hong Kong-based manufacturer, but rather, they are based in the United States. They have licenses (over 60) to create collectibles from films, video games, sports, music, and television. This company is based in New Jersey and was founded in 1996.

What are NECA collectibles

Neca produces high-end quality collectibles that are 1/10 scale size (that equates to about 7inches). Just as with King Arts and Hot Toys, these collectibles are designed for enthusiasts of certain media, be it film, video games, television, and more.

Hot Toys overview

Hot Toys is a Hong Kong-based production company started in 2000 that produces high-end collectibles that are 1/4 and 1/6 scale size. They also have to license rights to produce characters from media such as film, television, video games, comic books, anime, etc.

Hot Toys vs. NECA

If you are in the market to purchase or start purchasing collectibles as a hobby, you may wonder which company (manufacturer) produces the best collectibles. You don’t want to waste your hard-earned money on pricey action figures just to realize that there is another company making the same model collectible at a lower price that is of higher quality.

What are the differences between Hot Toys and NECA?

We have done our research and come up with the main contributing factors that make Hot Toys different From NECA collectibles.

Size of collectibles for Hot Toys and NECA

NECA mainly creates collectibles that are primarily 7inches in height, and that equates to 1/10 scale models. On the other hand, Hot Toys make much larger collectibles that easily tower above 12 and 18 inches. That is a sizeable difference in comparison, and in some cases, Hot Toys are three times as large.

One thing to note is that NECA also makes large-scale 18-inch collectibles (See video above); however, their primary focus is on 7inch models.

Articulation in collectibles for Hot Toys and NECA

Articulation in terms of a collectible means all the moving parts. This can include the hips, legs, knees, fingers, elbow, shoulder, head, etc. It now even considers elements on the figure that is movable and replaceable.

NECA collectibles have been known to have less articulation than their Hot Toys counterparts; however, this can vary from collectible to collectible.

The Detailing for Collectibles for Hot Toys and NECA

Keep in mind that the detail on both Hot Toys and NECA collectibles are very intricate and well done. Depending on the collectible in question, the detail of one might outperform the other. That is to say, for one specific model, Hot Toys might have better detail, and for another model, NECA might have better detail.

When comparing predators for the NECA 1/4 scale (18inches), collectible, and the Hot Toys 1/6 scale collectible, the Hot Toys does seem to outperform the NECA collectible in terms of detail. (See the video above)

The Price Variation for Hot Toys and NECA

Hot Toys are known to be very expensive, while NECA is priced very moderately. A 1/6 scale Hot Toy will set you back upwards of $200, while a 1/4 scale NECA collectible can be purchased for under $100. In addition to that, NECA collectibles of the 7inch variety can be bought for under $50.

This is definitely something to take into consideration, seeing that this hobby can get very addictive and very expensive.

Conclusion

We conclude that NECA has been in the business of manufacturing high-quality collectibles even longer than Hot Toys have, and both companies produce Exceptional quality models.

The detailing, planning, manufacturing, and precision of both collectibles are of the highest quality, and they rival each other coming and come out to finish neck in neck.

If you are an enthusiast, then you undoubtedly know this, and you will have your preference. If you are starting out and if you want to save money, then NECA by far offers better collectibles at a lower price.

Hence the deciding factor will either be preference is no price is involved, or the deciding factor will be price.
