Vatican City is run by the Pope

Yes, Vatican City is the country being the smallest in the world. The country is located within the city of Rome, Italy. Vatican City is a sovereign state with its government, laws, postal system, and currency. Jorge Mario Bergoglio is the current Pope and heads the state, and the Holy See is the government. Vatican City is the center of the Catholic Church, and the Pope is the leader of the Catholic Church.

Vatican City is a sovereign state with its government, laws, and currency. The government of the Vatican operates in a monarchy system. The reigning monarch has absolute powers and authority, having no restrictive laws from the written laws, customs or legislature. This means that the reigning family rules indefinitely in a hereditary system.

The Pope exercises sovereignty over the country upon his election as the overseer of the Roman Catholic Church. The Vatican City is also home to the Swiss Guard, a small force of Swiss mercenaries who serve as the Pope’s bodyguards.

 How Big is Vatican City?

While Vatican City is technically its own country, with its government, army, and postal system, it is surrounded by Rome, Italy. This makes it one of the smallest countries in the world, both in terms of land area and population. The Vatican measures just 44 hectares and has around 800 people.

The citizens speak Italian as their official language. With the city being the smallest, one can take approximately 40 minutes to walk all over the walls of Vatican City.

Most of the Vatican citizens are either cardinals or Swiss guards, and it has been noted to be impossible to be born a citizen in that country.

Vatican City has three main components; the St. Peters Basilica, Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican museums. The Vatican Museum has over 2000 rooms that show its contents and is one of the most prestigious art collections in the world.

You can cover 7.5 kilometers to walk and cover the whole museum. The Sistine Chapel is a chapel in the Vatican famous for its art. Michelangelo painted it. St. Peter’s Basilica is a church in the Vatican, the largest in the world.

Vatican City has a small transportation system with no highways or airports. The Vatican City Heliport is the only aviation facility. It is an independent country with no airport, but it has support from airports facilitating Rome.

Conclusion

Vatican City is the smallest country in the world with all governance systems, and it can be said to be a country. Even though small, the various art collections remain a tourist attraction component that adds value to the country. The people in that country are more submissive to the Roman Catholics and worship in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Vatican City is, therefore, the smallest internationally recognized independent state in the world by both land area and population. However, it should be noted that the Holy See, of which the Vatican City is the sovereign territory, is not itself a country but rather a theocracy with diplomatic relations.
